COP Badel is a smallcombat outpost created near the village of Badel in theNarang District ofKunar Province,Afghanistan. The small outpost was established in early 2009 by Dcompany, 1stBattalion, 32ndInfantry Regiment, 3BCT, 10thMountain Division and anEmbedded Training Team (ETT 2–7) ofMarines from 3D MarineDivision on a small piece ofhigh ground that locals called Badel Mountain.
The COP is considered to be on low ground compared to the mountains to the north. It was placed at the opening of theNarang Valley, which extends north towards the Shuryak andKorengal Valleys. COP Badel is always manned by one US InfantryPlatoon, U.S. Marines, and at least asquad ofANA at any given time. The outpost was attacked regularly withAK47's,PKM,RPG, Diska,recoilless rifles,ZPU, and 82mmmortars.[1]
