CFL Class 2000 is a class ofelectric multiple units operated byCFL on theLuxembourg railway network. They were built in 1990–1992 by a consortium ofDe Dietrich,ANF andAlstom and are similar toSNCF'sZ 11500 class.[1]
The Z2 family of multiple units was designed byFrancorail andAteliers de construction du Nord de la France. CFL selected a variant of the Z 11500 class for their network.
Between 2024 and 2025, the 2000 series will be replaced by 34 Coradia Stream railcars from theCoradia family produced byAlstom, which is due to increase the CFL's total seat capacity by 46%.[2]
Four 2000s have been named after places in Luxembourg. They carry the appropriate crests on the side of the driving cab.
The individual cars are built with steel frames.
The multiple working system allows three units to be worked as a single train with one driver. The individual vehicles are numbered (inUIC format) as 94 82 00 20xx 1-y and 94 82 00 20xx 2-y, where20xx is the unit number andy the check digit.
Within Luxembourg 2000s are used, alongside2200 series EMUs, for RB (Regionalbunn) services onLine 1. They are otherwise use on secondary lines: 1b fromKautenbach toWiltz, 6a fromBettembourg toVolmerange-les-Mines viaDudelange, 6b fromNoertzange toRumelange, and 6c fromEsch-sur-Alzette toAudun-le-Tiche.
