CD6 (Cluster ofDifferentiation 6) is a humanprotein encoded by theCD6gene.[5][6]

Function

[edit]

This gene encodes a protein found on the outer membrane ofT-lymphocytes as well as some other immune cells. The encoded protein contains threescavenger receptor cysteine-rich (SRCR) domains and a binding site for an activatedleukocyte cell adhesion molecule. The gene product is important for continuation ofT cell activation.[5]

Clinical significance

[edit]

Certainalleles of this gene may be associated with susceptibility tomultiple sclerosis.[7][8]
