Human protein
CD6 (C luster ofD ifferentiation 6) is a humanprotein encoded by theCD6 gene .[ 5] [ 6]
This gene encodes a protein found on the outer membrane ofT-lymphocytes as well as some other immune cells. The encoded protein contains threescavenger receptor cysteine-rich (SRCR) domains and a binding site for an activatedleukocyte cell adhesion molecule . The gene product is important for continuation ofT cell activation .[ 5]
Clinical significance [ edit ] Certainalleles of this gene may be associated with susceptibility tomultiple sclerosis .[ 7] [ 8]
