Charles William Martin (September 17, 1887 – March 14, 1978) was an Americancollege football player,track athlete, and sports coach. He served as the head football coach at theUniversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for one season in 1912, compiling a record of 3–4–1.
A native ofWallula, Washington, Martin played football at theUniversity of Notre Dame, where he was a teammate ofKnute Rockne. In May 2011, he set world records, running the100-yard dash in 9.6 seconds and the220-yard dash in 21.1 seconds. Martin died on March 14, 1978, inWalla Walla, Washington.[1][2]
