Córdoba (Spanish pronunciation:[ˈkoɾðoβa],Spanish:Departamento de Córdoba) is aDepartment of theRepublic of Colombia located to the north of this country in the ColombianCaribbean Region. Córdoba faces to the north with the Caribbean Sea, to the northeast with theSucre Department, east with theBolívar Department and south with theAntioquia Department. As of 2018, the population of Córdoba was estimated to be 1,784,783. Its capital is the city ofMontería.

TheCongress of Colombia approved by Law 9 December 17, 1951 which created the Department of Córdoba and later sanctioned by the thenPresident of ColombiaRoberto Urdaneta Arbeláez, but only came into effect six months later.
