Jamarian "Byrd" Ficklin is an Americancollege footballquarterback for theUtah Utes.

Early life

Ficklin attendedMuskogee High School inMuskogee, Oklahoma. As a junior, he threw for 3,249 yards and 32 touchdowns while also rushing for 947 yards and 20 touchdowns, leading Muskogee to a state championship.[1][2] As a senior, Ficklin threw for 2,218 yards and 28 touchdowns.[3] A three-star recruit, he committed to play college football at theUniversity of Utah.[4]

College career

Ficklin entered his true freshman season competing withIsaac Wilson for the Utes' second-string quarterback position.[5][6] AgainstCal Poly, he ran for 55 yards and two touchdowns in the win.[7][8] Following an injury to starting quarterbackDevon Dampier, Ficklin was named the team's starting quarterback againstColorado.[9] In his first career start, he threw for 140 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 151 yards and a touchdown in a 53–7 rout.[10][11]
