InGreek mythology, the nameButes (/ˈbjuːtiːz/;Ancient Greek: Βούτης,Boútēs) referred to several different people.

• Butes, anAthenian prince as the son of KingPandion I and thenaiadZeuxippe. He was a priest ofPoseidon andAthena and was worshipped as a hero by theAthenians. He was married toChthonia, daughter of his brotherErechtheus.^[1] Butes other siblings werePhilomela,Procne^[2] and possiblyTeuthras.^[3]
• Butes, orButas, anArgonaut,^[4] son ofTeleon^[5] andZeuxippe (daughter ofEridanus).^[6] In some accounts, his father was calledAeneus.^[7] When the Argonauts were sailing past theSirens, he was the only one who was unable resist the charm of their singing, swimming off to them. ButAphrodite saved Butes by transferring him toLilybaeum inSicily, where he became her lover.^[8] Other accounts call him a famous bee keeper and a nativeSicilian king.^[9] He was the father ofEryx by Aphrodite,^[10] and also ofPolycaon.^[11]
• Butes, aThracian,Boreas's son, who was hostile towards his stepbrotherLycurgus and was driven out of the country by him. He settled in the island of Strongyle (Naxos) with a bunch of men, and proceeded to attack those who sailed past the island. As there were no women on Strongyle to begin with, they would sail here and there to seize some from the land, but were not quite successful. When they landed inThessaly for that purpose, Butes offendedDionysus by rapingCoronis, aMaenad, and was made insane upon her imploration, in which state he threw himself down a well and died. His companions did abduct some women, includingIphimedeia and her daughterPancratis.^[12]
• Butes, possible father ofHippodamia (wife of Pirithous).^[13] She is otherwise referred to as daughter ofAtrax^[14] orAdrastus.^[15]
• Butes, son ofPallas and brother ofClytus; the two brothers were younger companions ofCephalus.^[16]
• Butes, a member of the clan ofAmycus, fromBithynia, who, despite being a champion wrestler, was killed byDares in a boxing match.^[17]
• Butes, a warrior in the army of theSeven against Thebes killed byHaemon.^[18]
• Butes, a servant ofAnchises.^[19]
• Butes, a warrior who fought underAeneas and was killed byCamilla.^[20]
