Bundesautobahn 96 (translates fromGerman asFederal Motorway 96, short formAutobahn 96, abbreviated asBAB 96 orA 96) is amotorway in southernGermany, leading from theAustrian border (A14) nearLindau (Lake Constance) throughMemmingen,Landsberg am Lech toMunich. Two European routes lead through the autobahn:E 43 andE 54.
It was first planned to build a direct connection between Munich and Lindau beforeWorld War II, south ofAmmersee. During the1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, a section from Munich toOberpfaffenhofen andGermering was built. A 25 km (16 mi) part of the road during those games were used for theroad team time trial cycling event.[1]
The last two-laned section, fromWangen-Nord toLeutkirch-Süd, was upgraded in 2009.
