Bukkanodus jesseni is aspecies ofprehistoriclobe-finned fish which lived during theEarly Devonianperiod (Pragianstage, about 407 to 411million years ago).B. jesseni was first described in 2007 bypaleontologistZerina Johanson in theJournal of Paleontology from specimens found in theFairy Formation ofVictoria, Australia.[1]
A new phylogenetic analysis of sarcopterygians placedBukkanodus outside of the Onychodontiformes as a stem-actinistan basal to the Onychodontiformes+Coelacanthiformes clade.[2]
