Buena Vista was a major dialect of theYokuts language of California, or possibly a distinct but closely related language.[2] It was spoken in at least two local varieties aroundBuena Vista Lake inKern County, California,"[1] in the villages of Hometwoli, Loasau, Tuhohi, and Tulamni.[3]
Two documented dialects of Buena Vista wereTulamni andHometwali.[4] Tuhohi (also called Tohohai or Tuhohayi) was a similar dialect, spoken by a tribe who "lived among channels and sloughs ofKern River where they enterTulare Lake."[5]
A variety of theBarbareño language "was heavily influenced by Buena Vista Yokuts." This language was called Emigdiano, as it was "spoken atSan Emigdio near Buena Vista Lake."[6]
