Bryant Barnes (born March 13, 2003), is an American singer-songwriter and musician. He originally gained virality onTikTok through piano covers, but later signed withMercury Records and began to put out R&B music. He released his first studio album,Vanity, on July 26, 2024. It contained the hit song "I'd Rather Pretend", which was later made into a remix featuringd4vd.

Early life

Bryant Barnes was born on March 13, 2003,[1] inCypress, Texas.[2][3] His older brother named him afterKobe Bryant.[4] He frequently moved back and forth between Cypress andTacoma, Washington, as a child. Before pursuing singing, Barnes mainly was a classical pianist, first learning at the age of six.[5] He also learned how to play the cello in middle school. Barnes originally wanted to be a basketball player, but hetore his ACL, twice making him turn to music, rapping for fun.[6]

Career

During theCOVID-19 pandemic, Barnes uploaded covers of songs by artists such asMac Miller andJoji toTikTok and played public pianos. He signed withMercury Records in 2023 after the label noticed his cover of "Carry On" byXXXTentacion.[7][8][9] Barnes released his first studio album,Vanity, on July 26, 2024.[2] The song "I'd Rather Pretend" from the album went viral, reaching #7 on theBillboardHot R&B Songs chart, and spawned a remix withd4vd.[10] Barnes accompanied070 Shake as a supporting act for his The Petrichor Tour in 2025.[11]

Barnes' music is of thecontemporary R&B,lo-fi, andsoul genres.[3] He has stated that he is influenced by his favorite artists, which areEkkstacy,Joji,XXXTentacion,Keshi, and Isaia Huron.[12][13]
