Bruno dos Santos Moraes (born 7 July 1984) is a Brazilian former professionalfootballer who played as astriker.
He spent most of his career in Portugal, starting in 2003 withPorto.
Born inSantos, São Paulo, Moraes arrived at only 19 toFC Porto in Portugal, fromSantos FC. His career with thenorthern club would be marred by constant injuries – he made fivePrimeira Liga appearances in hisdebut season, and none whatsoever in2005–06 and2007–08.[2][3]
Moraes' most productive season at Porto came in the2006–07 campaign, as theDragons won the national championship for the second year running. He appeared in 18 matches and scored three goals across the domestic league and theUEFA Champions League, notably taking part in bothgroup-stage fixtures againstHamburger SV and netting in the second, a 3–1 away win 1 in November 2006.[4][5]
Moraes spent2004–05 on loan toVitória de Setúbal,[6] where he appeared regularly, and started2008–09 on loan with the same team, but the second spell was soon cut short due to injury.[7][8] In January 2010, with a contract running until June, he returned to Porto, trying to persuade managerJesualdo Ferreira to add him to the squad of the four-time national champions;[9] he did not and was loaned one more time, now toRio Ave F.C. of the same league.[10]
In mid-February 2011, Moraes signed forAssociação Naval 1º de Maio also in Portugal.[11] He featured regularly during his four-month spell inFigueira da Foz, but they could not finallyavoid top-flight relegation.[12] In July, after an aborted transfer toAl Ahly SC inEgypt, he joined another Portuguese top-tier side,U.D. Leiria,[13] meeting the same fate at the end ofthe season.[14]
On 8 October 2012, Moraes moved clubs and countries again, signing a one-year deal withÚjpest FC in Hungary.[15] In July 2015, after totalling only 11 games forGil Vicente F.C. andAssociação Portuguesa de Desportos, he joinedVarzim S.C. of the PortugueseSegunda Liga.[16]
Moraes' younger brother,Júnior Moraes, was also a footballer and a striker. He too represented Santos as a senior, as well as Gloria Bistriţa. Their father also played for that club as well asClube de Regatas do Flamengo, whilst a sister ended her career early on due to injury. Moraes' mother won the São Paulo Statetennis championship.[17]
