History

Brumath occupies the site of the RomanBrocomagus.[4]Maria Christina of Saxony, aunt ofLouis XVI, died in the château in the city. The building was partly demolished in the Revolution.[5]

Brumath is located on theZorn river, and is 17 km (11 mi) north ofStrasbourg and 13 km (8.1 mi) south ofHaguenau.

Landmarks

Brumath has a Roman Catholic and a Protestant church. The Protestant church is housed in the former castle of the Hanau-Lichtenberg family since 1804.[5] The vaulted basement of the castle also houses theMusée archéologique, displaying findings made in and around the ancient Roman town ofBrocomagus.

Transportation

Brumath is served by theRoute nationale 63, linking Strasbourg to Haguenau, and by theA4 autoroute.It has arailway station on the line linking Strasbourg andMetz.
