Brodmann area 31, also known asdorsal posterior cingulate area 31, is a subdivision of thecytoarchitecturally defined cingulate region of thecerebral cortex.[1] In the human, it occupies portions of theposterior cingulate gyrus and medial aspect of theparietal lobe. Approximate boundaries are thecingulate sulcus dorsally and theparieto-occipital sulcus caudally. It partially surrounds thesubparietal sulcus, the ventral continuation of the cingulate sulcus in the parietal lobe. Cytoarchitecturally it is bounded rostrally by theventral anterior cingulate area 24, ventrally by theventral posterior cingulate area 23, dorsally by thegigantopyramidal area 4 andpreparietal area 5 and caudally by thesuperior parietal area 7 (H) (Brodmann-1909).
