The inaugural recipients of the newBritish Newcomer award wereThe Human League.[7] From 2003 to 2019, the award was presented asBritish Breakthrough Act.[8] The award received its current nameBest New Artist starting in 2020, bringing it in line with similar international awards such as theGrammy Award for Best New Artist.Mabel andDave are the only artists who have been nominated for this award more than once.
