Brighton is a primarily residentialneighborhood in southernSeattle,Washington, part of the greaterRainier Valley district and centered about a mile and a half south of theColumbia City neighborhood.[1]
The neighborhood was settled byEnglish immigrants in the 1880s, who named it "Brighton Beach" after the English resort city ofBrighton inEast Sussex.[2][3]
It is several blocks from theOthello light rail station.[2] The neighborhood was served by theRainier Avenue Electric Railway from 1891 until it closed in 1937.[3]
According to theUS census, 90% of Brighton residents self-reported as being non-white in 2010.[4]
