Bridgend (Scottish Gaelic:Beul an Àtha) is a village on theInner Hebrides island ofIslay off the western coast ofScotland at the tip ofLoch Indaal. The village is within the parish ofKillarow and Kilmeny.[1]
The island's two main roads, theA846 andA847, meet in the village just north of the bridge over theRiver Sorn that gives the village its name. The A846 passes through the village on its route betweenPort Askaig andArdbeg.[2] The A847 begins in Bridgend and continues toPortnahaven.[3]
It is notable as the location ofIslay House. The bridge over the River Sorn is Category B listed.[4]
TheNational Bank of Scotland opened a branch in Bridgend in 1838[5] under the management of Duncan McAlister, Merchant and Postmaster. The building constructed in 1838 is Category B listed.[6]
