Brian Pensky is an American collegesoccer coach who is the head coach of theFlorida State Seminoles women's soccer team. He was previously the head coach of theMaryland Terrapins and theTennessee Volunteers.
Pensky began coaching college soccer as an assistant with theGeorge Washington University women's team. He then assisted atLoyola University Maryland followed by theUniversity of Maryland men's team underSasho Cirovski.[1]
Pensky became the head coach of theMaryland Terrapins women's team in 2005.[2] He was named the national coach of the year in 2010.[1]
Pensky was hired as head coach of theTennessee Volunteers women's team in 2012.[3] In his last season, he led the team to their firstSEC tournament title in thirteen years and was named the SEC coach of the year in 2021.[4]
Pensky replaced longtime coachMark Krikorian as the head coach of theFlorida State Seminoles women's team in 2022. Many players had come to Florida State because of Krikorian's reputation, and Pensky managed to assuage concerns about the coaching change to keep most players from leaving.[1][5] In his first season, he led the reigningnational champions to defend theirACC title but lost in the semifinals of theNCAA tournament.[1] The next season, Florida State went undefeated on their way to reclaiming theNCAA championship.[6]
