Bria is an ancient city inPhrygia,Asia Minor. Bria was located in the lateRoman province ofPhrygia Pacatiana Prima, south ofAcmonia. It was probably within theconventus iuridicus ofApamea.[1]
Bria is theThraco-Phrygian word for 'town', and appears in other placenames, such asMesembria andSelymbria.[1]
Bria issued coins under theSeveran dynasty.[1]
The see of Bria was asuffragan ofLaodicea in Phrygia (Laodicea on the Lycus). Its only historically documented bishop was Macedonius, who participated in thecouncil of Constantinople of 536.[2] It is not documented inNotitiae episcoporum which started in the 7th century nor in Lequien'sOriens Christianus.
In 1933, the diocese became the Latintitular bishopric of Bria.
