TheBrazilian laniisoma (Laniisoma elegans), also known as theshrike-like laniisoma, theshrike-like cotinga or theelegant mourner, is a species ofbird in the familyTityridae. As suggested by itscommon name, it was formerly considered acotinga. As it is far from being "shrike-like", this means that the widely used common name is entirely misleading.
It is found inAtlantic forest in eastern Brazil. It was formerly considered asconspecific with theAndean laniisoma (Laniisoma buckleyi) that occurs in humidAndean forests in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. The Brazilian laniisoma ismonotypic.[2]
