Brainiac 8 (Indigo) is asuperhero character appearing inAmerican comic books published byDC Comics. She first appeared inTitans/Young Justice: Graduation Day #1 and was created byJudd Winick andAlé Garza. Initially a heroic figure and ally of theTeen Titans andOutsiders, Indigo is later revealed to be amole designed to eliminate opposition to theColuan species.
Laura Vandervoort portrays Indigo in the television seriesSupergirl.
Indigo is aColuan originating from the future who comes to the 21st century to be repaired after being badly damaged. Indigo seeks help from theMetal Men andCyborg, neither of whom are able to help her. After accidentally injuring Cyborg, Indigo is attacked by theTeen Titans andYoung Justice, during which she is damaged further and shuts down. WhenRoy Harper reforms the Outsiders, he reactivates Indigo and has her join the team.
Indigo is later revealed to be Brainiac 8, a descendant ofBrainiac who was designed to infiltrate the Teen Titans and killDonna Troy to ensure Coluan dominance in the future. The Indigo the Outsiders are familiar with was asubprogram designed to endear her to them.[1] The Indigo persona begsShift to kill her, to which he complies.[2]
Indigo returns inTeen Titans (vol. 3) #98 as part ofSuperboy-Prime'sLegion of Doom. She now sports a cybernetic arm and eye, the origins of which are unexplained.[3] InTeen Titans (vol. 3) #100, she is destroyed byRobin andRed Robin.[4]
In 2016, DC Comics implemented another relaunch of its books called "DC Rebirth", which restored its continuity to a form much as it was prior to "The New 52". Indigo appears as a member of theFatal Five.[5]
Indigo possesses an analytical computer-like brain, enabling her to think and perceive information at great speeds.[6] As a unique inorganic being, she can fly, project force fields, and fire blasts of energy from her eyes or hands. Her physical capabilities are far beyond human limitations. She is also able to interact with and control any technology, no matter how modern.[7]
Indigo is the name of several unrelated characters: a member ofDP 7, an alias ofDeep Blue, a member ofSovereign Seven, and the leader of theIndigo Tribe.
