History

Braine existed long before the year 561, when it was mentioned as a royal palace (Königspfalz) ofNeustrian KingChlotar I.

In the 18th century, the counts ofEgmont-Pignatelli spent their summers at theChâteau de Braine, which was known for its gardens byAndré Le Nôtre. CountessSeptimanie d'Egmont a Frenchsalonist who invited guests likeRousseau to visit the château. After theFrench Revolution, the château was demolished.
