Bradley 'Brad' Kelvin Read (born 4 February 1995)[1] is afield hockey player fromNew Zealand.[2]
Bradley Read was born inChristchurch, and grew up inWellington, New Zealand.[3]
In domestic competition, Read is currently not attached to a club. He most recently competed withHolcombe in theEnglish Hockey League andEuro Hockey League.[4][5] He previously competed on home soil for theCentral Falcons in thePremier Hockey League and his home city of Wellington in theFord National Hockey Championship.[6]
He represented theNew Zealand U–21 team from 2014 until 2016. He was a member of the squad at the2014 and2016 editions of theSultan of Johor Cup inJohor Bahru, beforecaptaining the team at the2016 FIH Junior World Cup inLucknow.[7]
Read made his senior international debut for theBlack Sticks in 2016. He earned his first seniorcap during a match againstAustralia during theTrans–Tasman Trophy inAuckland.[7]
Since his debut, Read has been a constant fixture in the national squad. He has representedTeam New Zealand in major competitions including theXXII Commonwealth Games inBirmingham and theXXXIII Olympic Games inParis.[3][8] He has also medalled with the national squad on three occasions. He won silver at the2017 Oceania Cup inSydney, bronze at the2024 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup inIpoh, and gold at the2023–24 FIH Nations Cup inGniezno.[9][10]
He has most recently been named in the squad for the2025 Oceania Cup inDarwin.[11][12]
