Brachyuranochampsa is anextinctgenus ofcrocodilian.
The only robust occurrence ofBrachyuranochampsa isB. eversolei from theMiddle Eocene ofWyoming.[1] Another species,B. zangerli from the lowerBridger Formation atGrizzly Buttes, has beensynonymized with another primitive crocodilian,"Crocodylus" affinis, also known from the Bridger Formation.[2][3]
Phylogenetic studies have consistently recoveredBrachyuranochampsa as morebasal than thecrown groupCrocodylidae, which consists of allextant (living)crocodiles.[2][4]
The belowcladogram from a 2018 study combiningmorphological data and molecular DNA evidence shows the placement ofBrachyuranochampsa withinCrocodylia.[5]
