Bottiaea (Greek:ΒοττιαίαBottiaia) was a geographical region ofLower Macedonia and an administrative district of theMacedonian Kingdom. It was previously inhabited by theBottiaeans, a people of uncertain origin, later expelled by theMakedones intoBottike (Chalcidice). In Roman times it was replaced byEmathia as a geographical term.
Bottiaea comprised the northeastern part ofImathia and the area between theLoudias and theAxios Rivers (the western area of today'sGiannitsa) in modernPella (regional unit).
The historic cities of Bottiaea were Aigae (Vergina) first capital of Macedon,Aloros,Pella (second capital of Macedon),Edessa,Mieza,Atalanta,Gortynia,Kyrros,Skydra,Ichnae andBeroea.
