Borai is located at22°46′17″N88°15′09″E / 22.7715°N 88.2524°E /22.7715; 88.2524.[1]

The area is composed of flatalluvial plains that form a part of theGangetic Delta.[2]

Urbanisation

In Chandannagore subdivision 58.52% of the population is rural whereas, the urban population is 41.48%. Chandannagore subdivision has 1 municipal corporation, 3 municipalities and 7census towns. The single municipal corporation is known as Chandernagore Municipal Corporation. The municipalities areTarakeswar Municipality,Bhadreswar Municipality andChampdany Municipality.[3] Of the three CD Blocks in Chandannagore subdivision, the Tarakeswar CD Block is wholly rural, Haripal CD Block is predominantly rural with just 1 census town, and Singur CD Block is slightly less rural with 6 census towns. Polba Dadpur and Dhaniakhali CD Blocks of Chinsurah subdivision (included in the map alongside) are wholly rural.[4] The municipal areas are industrialised. As per2011 Census of India Borai had a total population of 6,522 of which 3,321 (51%) were males and 3,201 (49%) were females. Population below 6 years was 570. The total number of literates in Borai was 5,010 (84.17% of the population over 6 years).[4]

Transport

The nearest railway station,Baruipara railway station is 27 kilometres (17 mi) from Howrah on theHowrah-Bardhaman chord line and is a part of theKolkata Suburban Railway system.[6] There is31 Number Private Bus fromJangipara bus stand toSerampore bus stand viaFurfura Sharif,Sehakhala,Banmalipur,Gangadharpur,Baruipara, Borai and Milki Badamtala.

It is close toNH 19 (old numbering NH 2)/Durgapur Expressway.[7]
