Bonifacio, officially theMunicipality of Bonifacio (Cebuano:Lungsod sa Bonifacio;Tagalog:Bayan ng Bonifacio), is amunicipality in theprovince ofMisamis Occidental,Philippines. According to the 2024 census, it had a population of 34,942 people.[5]
The town of Bonifacio was established in 1942 by Don Demetrio P. Fernan, who also became the town's first mayor.
Bonifacio was created as the 11th municipality of Misamis Occidental throughExecutive Order No. 242, issued byPresidentManuel L. Quezon on December 28, 1939, which organized sixbarrios that had separated fromTangub. The organization took effect on January 2, 1940.[6]
Bonifacio is politically subdivided into 28barangays. Each barangay consists ofpuroks while some havesitios.
