Bolasterone (INNTooltip International Nonproprietary Name,USANTooltip United States Adopted Name) (brand namesMyagen,Methosarb; former developmental code nameU-19763), also known as7α,17α-dimethyltestosterone, is a17α-alkylatedandrogen/anabolic steroid (AAS) which is used inveterinary medicine.[2][3] It has close structural similarity totestosterone, and likemethyltestosterone has amethyl group at C17α in order to increaseoralbioavailability.[2] In addition, it is also 7α-methylated, similar to its 7β-methylatedisomercalusterone.[2] The medication has a low to moderate ratio ofanabolic toandrogenic activity, similar to that offluoxymesterone.[4]
Bolasterone is on theWorld Anti-Doping Agency's list of prohibited substances,[5] and is therefore banned from use in most major sports.
