Robert William Kahler (February 13, 1917 – April 16, 2013) was anAmerican football player and coach. He playeddefensive back andhalfback in theNational Football League (NFL) for theGreen Bay Packers from 1942 to 1944. Kahler playedcollege football at theUniversity of Nebraska–Lincoln. He retired from playing in 1944.[1][2]

After military service inWorld War II, Kahler returned to Nebraska as an assistant football and track coach. In 1947–48, he was the head football and track coach atNebraska City High School. In 1948, he moved to State Normal School and Teacher's College inWayne, Nebraska—nowWayne State College—as head football coach and led his team to a share of theNebraska College Conference championship. The following year, he moved toNorthern Illinois University, where he served as head coach for one season in 1955.[3]

While at Nebraska, Kahler was also an accomplished track and field athlete, setting anAmerican indoor record of 7.8 seconds in the70 yards hurdles.[3]
