Robert W. "Bo"Welch III is an Americanproduction designer, art director, film and television director and occasional actor. He is best known for his collaborations with directors such asTim Burton andBarry Sonnenfeld.
Welch was born inYardley, Pennsylvania.[1]
Welch worked as a production designer on theTim Burton filmsEdward Scissorhands,Beetlejuice andBatman Returns, as well as on theBarry Sonnenfeld filmsMen in Black andWild Wild West, among other films. He made his directorial debut withThe Cat in the Hat, based on the beloved Dr. Seuss bookof the same name. He has been nominated for fourAcademy Awards for Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, three of them shared withset decoratorCheryl Carasik and another one withJ. Michael Riva andLinda DeScenna. The four films areMen in Black,The Birdcage, andA Little Princess with Carasik,[2] andThe Color Purple with Riva and DeScenna.
Welch met actressCatherine O'Hara on the set ofBeetlejuice in 1988.[3] They married in 1992 and have two sons: Matthew (b. 1994) and Luke (b. 1997).[4]
