Virgilee Clinton "Bo" Bolinger (December 26, 1932 – August 5, 2011) was anAmerican footballguard who played one season with theEdmonton Eskimos of theCanadian Football League (CFL). He was drafted by theChicago Cardinals of theNational Football League (NFL) in the thirteenth round of the1956 NFL draft.[1] Bolinger playedcollege football at theUniversity of Oklahoma and attendedCentral High School inMuskogee, Oklahoma. He was a consensusAll-American in1955.[2][3][4][5]

Bolinger also served as a football coach and scout for various organizations.[6]

Early life

Bolinger played football atCentral High School inMuskogee, Oklahoma.[3][4] He was a member of the "B Boys" that includedKurt and Robert Burris andMax Boydston. They had all played high school football together and went on to play for theOklahoma Sooners.[7]

College career

Bolinger was a ConsensusAll-American and ninth inHeisman Trophy voting in1955.[2][8][9] He was member of the1955 Oklahoma Soonersnational championship team.[10]

Professional career

Bolinger was drafted by theChicago Cardinals of the NFL with the 149th pick in the1956 NFL draft.[1] He spent the1956 season with theEdmonton Eskimos of the CFL.

Coaching career

Bolinger was head coach of the Miami High School football team inMiami, Oklahoma in 1957. He was coach of the offensive and defensive lines at theUniversity of Denver from 1958 to 1960. He was defensive coordinator at theUniversity of Tulsa from 1961 to 1962. He was offensive and defensive coordinator for theUniversity of New Mexico from 1963 to 1967. Bolinger was the offensive coordinator atUtah State University in 1968. He then spent two seasons as offensive line coach of theCalgary Stampeders.[6][11]

Scouting career

Bolinger joined theArizona Cardinals in 1971. He was Director of College Scouting from 1994 to 1997 and Senior Scout from 1998 to 2000.[11] He then served as a scout for theTennessee Titans for eight seasons.[6][11]
