Blue Lake Township is acivil township ofMuskegon County in theU.S. state ofMichigan. As of the2020 census, the township population was 2,416.[2] One of the largest landowners in the township is thePathway to Adventure Council of theBoy Scouts of America, which ownsOwasippe Scout Reservation. The township is also home to theBlue Lake Fine Arts Camp.
Blue Lake Township was organized in 1865.[5]
The township is in northern Muskegon County, bordered to the north byOceana County. The township center is 7 miles (11 km) by road northeast ofWhitehall and 16 miles (26 km) north ofMuskegon, thecounty seat.
According to theU.S. Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 35.7 square miles (92 km2), of which 33.6 square miles (87 km2) are land and 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2), or 6.11%, are water.[1] There are dozens of natural lakes in the township, the largest being Big Blue Lake in the north. TheWhite River, a tributary ofLake Michigan, crosses the northwest part of the township.

As of thecensus[3] of 2010, there were 2,399 people, 822 households, and 665 families residing in the township. Thepopulation density was 66.634 per square mile. There were 975 housing units at an average density of 27.08 per square mile. The racial makeup of the township was 90.2%White, 3.0%African American, 2.4%Native American, 0.50%Asian, 0.3% fromother races, and 2.71% from two or more races.Hispanic orLatino of any race were 2.6% of the population.
There were 822 households, out of which 37.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.5% weremarried couples living together, 10.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.1% were non-families. 13.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.7% had someone living alone. The average household size was 2.91 and the average family size was 3.18.
In the township the population was spread out, with 31.8% under the age of 20, 21.3% from 20 to 39, 31.2% from 40 to 59, 10.9% from 60 to 69, and 4.8% who were 70 years of age or older. The median age was 37.8 years.
Based on the 2000 census: The median income for a household in the township was $50,000, and the median income for a family was $55,121. Males had a median income of $38,466 versus $27,760 for females. Theper capita income for the township was $18,866. About 8.1% of families and 11.5% of the population were below thepoverty line, including 18.9% of those under age 18 and 9.4% of those age 65 or over.
Blue Lake Township is managed by a township board and is headed by the office of supervisor. The current sitting supervisor is Melonie Arbogast.
