Blake Chancey (born September 11, 1962) is an American record producer and music business executive, known primarily for his work in country music. Formerly anexecutive vice president andchief creative officer forSony Music, he later formed a partnership with artist managerScott Siman. He is currently the chief creative officer and partner of RPM Music Group inNashville, Tennessee and one of Nashville's leading record producers.

Career

Chancey is the son of record producer and label executiveRon Chancey, who signedGeorge Strait andJimmy Buffett, and produced theOak Ridge Boys andBilly Crash Craddock and Jeris Ross, among others.

Beginning his career as a sound engineer, he first worked withRicky Nelson, TheAllman Brothers Band andJoe Walsh. He later enrolled in the Music Business Program atMiddle Tennessee State University where he received a BA in Music Business. Working withBob Beckham atCombine Music, he worked with writers such asDennis Linde,Kris Kristofferson,Tony Joe White,Larry Gatlin andGuy Clark. One of his first successes as a producer was the platinum debut album ofDavid Ball.

In the early 1990s, Siman andPaul Worley, who were running Sony Nashville, reached out to Chancey to serve as A&R executive and producer atSony Records. While at Sony, Chancey worked with and developed TheDixie Chicks,Ricochet,Montgomery Gentry, as well as overseeing the A&R of many other artists on the roster. He went on to produceWaylon Jennings,Billy Ray Cyrus,Little Big Town andMary Chapin Carpenter and many other Sony artists.

TheDixie Chicks' 1998 albumWide Open Spaces and their 1999Fly album won Chancey aGrammy Award for Best Country Album.[1] They also earned him twoCMA Awards and twoACM Awards, and numerous other nominations.

Since leavingSony Records, Chancey has worked as an independent producer and publisher, producing records onMontgomery Gentry,[2]Gretchen Wilson,The Lost Trailers,Kellie Pickler,[3]Jeff Bates and others.
