Blairmorite is a very rare[1]porphyriticvolcanic rock named after the community ofBlairmore in southwesternAlberta, Canada.[2][3] It is characterized by dominantanalcimephenocrysts in amatrix of analcime, sanidine andalkalicpyroxene with accessorytitanite, melanite andnepheline. It is aleucocratic variety ofanalcimite (afoidite).[4] Blairmorite has also been described as an analcime-rich variety ofphonolite.[5][6]

Thisextrusiveigneous rock is known from only twogeological formations worldwide. The foremost blairmorite occurrence is theCrowsnest Formation in the Canadian province of Alberta where it is associated withagglomerates andtuffs fromexplosive eruptions. The other locality is theLupata Gorge inMozambique.[2]
