Bjarne Fog Corydon (born 1 March 1973) is a Danish politician and businessman, who was a member of theFolketing from theSocial Democrats from 2011 to 2016. He served asFinance Minister of Denmark in theCabinet of Helle Thorning-Schmidt from 2011 to 2015, and was formerly her secretary.[1] He serves since 2025 as Director General forDR.[2]

Early life

Corydon was born on 1 March 1973 inKolding.[3] He was born in adetached house just outside of Skovparken, which is now classified as aghetto.[4] He is the son oflandscape gardener Arne Corydon andsecretary Tove Corydon.[3] During the weekends he worked a part-time job alongside his father to help his family's income by laying tiles.[4] He also had to help his mom, who was often mentally unwell.[5]

During his youth while attending the localgymnasium, he enjoyed reading books about politics andFyodor Dostoevsky and playingfootball.[6] After graduating from the gymnasium he attendedAarhus University from 1992 to 2000, graduating as aCandidate of Political Science.[3]

Career

In 2011 he was elected to theFolketing, and was appointedMinister of Finance byHelle Thorning-Schmidt.[7] He was behind the controversial sale of the Danish companyDONG to the AmericanGoldman Sachs in 2014, which led theSocialist People's Party to leave the government coalition.[8]

After he left the Folketing in 2016, Corydon worked for themanagement consulting companyMcKinsey & Co, and he was in 2018 appointed new CEO and Editor-in-Chief ofDagbladet Børsen, a Danish newspaper specialising in business news published in Denmark.[9]

Personal life

He is married to Nina Eg Hansen, who in 2012 became Director of the Ministry of Social Affairs, where she had worked for 10 years.[10] Together, they have four children.[10]
