Birjhora Mahavidyalaya, also known asBirjhora Science College, is aco-educational science college. It was established in 1986 inBongaigaon,Assam,India.
Birjhora Mahavidyalaya was initially started by a sponsoring committee headed by Sri P.B. Chaudhury, MLA. With the active support of the local community, the college was taken over by the state'sMinistry of Education under the deficit Grand-in-Aids system, and the college was provincialized in December 2005.
The college is affiliated withGauhati University and has been awarded with a B++-grade certification by theNational Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).[2]
Apart from the traditional degree courses, the college also offers several courses of study ininformation technology (IT). Birjhora Mahavidyalaya offers three-yearBachelor of Science (BSc) major and general courses, a three-year vocational course in IT, a one-year certificate course IT, apost-graduatediploma in computer application (PGDCA), and a certificate course inmushroom cultivation. The college offers degrees in the major subjects ofphysics,chemistry,mathematics,botany,zoology, andstatistics, and the general subjects of English, botany, chemistry,economics, mathematics, physics, statistics, zoology, and IT. Courses in various disciplines are also offered through theIndira Gandhi Open University (IGNOU) Study Centre, the Institute of Distance Learning (IDOL) at Guhati University, and Krisha Kanta Handique State Open University (KKHSOU).[citation needed]
