Japanese edition of the Billboard magazine

Billboard Japan is asister organization of theU.S.-based music magazineBillboard.[1] It is operated by the JapaneseOsaka-based company Hanshin Contents Link (a subsidiary ofHanshin Electric Railway), holding an exclusive licence fromBillboard's parent company to the Billboard brand name inJapan,[2][3][4][5] and manages, among others, the website www.billboard-japan.com and several "Billboard Live"-branded music clubs located in the country.[6]

In February 2008, Hanshin Contents Link, under licence fromBillboard, launched theBillboard Japan Hot 100 music chart.[7][8] As of 2025, the list of charts compiled byBillboard Japan also included an albums chart namedBillboard Japan Hot Albums,[9] physical-sales-only-based charts Top Singles Sales and Top Albums Sales, download-only-based charts Download Songs and Download Albums, ananimation music chart named Hot Animation, and a chart for foreign songs named Hot Overseas, etc.[10] In November 2025, the company launches book charts to list the best-selling books in Japan.[11]

From 2010 to 2016,Billboard Japan holds an annual awards ceremony called theBillboard Japan Music Awards, which honors domestic and international artists who achieved the best results onBillboard Japan's music charts during the previous year.

Music Labo

Music Labo (ミュージック・ラボ) was a music magazine in Japan, published from 1970 to 1994.[26]Billboard Publications bought 45% of that business to createBillboard Japan/Music Labo in 1971.[27][28] The magazine published a number of record charts including the "Hot 150", the "Hot 100",[29] and the "Hot 50".[30] TheMusic Labo charts were used for the "Japan" section of "Hits of the World" inBillboard.[31] There wereBillboard andMusic Labo Awards at theTokyo Music Festival.[32]
