William J. Karins (born April 14, 1974[1]) is an Americanmeteorologist, working forNBC News. He is currently seen primarily onNBC'sEarly Today,Hallie Jackson NOW andTop Story with Tom Llamas. He also occasionally reports weekdays forMSNBC'sFirst Look,Way Too Early,Morning Joe,MSNBC Live andCNBC. Prior to being named an NBC meteorologist, Karins was one of the original meteorologists for the now shutteredNBC Weather Plus. From 2009 to 2012, Karins had been the meteorologist onWeekend Today on Saturdays. Karins was briefly one of several substitute hosts forWay Too Early during the departure ofWillie Geist from the show for hisToday hosting duties.He has also appeared as a fill-in forAl Roker onToday, and forDylan Dreyer onWeekend Today.[2]
Karins was born inAlbany, New York. He is a graduate of the State University of New York at Oneonta. Prior to working at NBC, he was a meteorologist atKSNT inTopeka, Kansas, and atWCTI inNew Bern, North Carolina. He also worked inBangor, Maine forWABI-TV.
