Bhatt Kirat was aBrahmin bard in the court ofGuru Arjan, whose eight hymns are present inGuru Granth Sahib, the holy book ofSikhs.[1][2][3][4] The titleBhatt is given to learned Brahmins.

Early life

Kirat was born, inSultanpur Lodhi toBhatt Bhika, in aGaur Brahmin family (of Kaushish gotra) and he was brother ofBhatt Mathura.[5][6] His father's ancestors settled in Sultanpur fromLadwa village nearKurukshetra city (present dayHaryana).[citation needed]

Battle of Amritsar (1634)

Bhai Kirat being tired of Mughal oppression, joined the sixth guru,Guru Hargobind to fight against theMughal Empire. He contributed and fought valiantly inBattle of Amritsar and killed Lahore’s Subedar Murtza Khan but because of heavy injury and blood loss, he attained martyrdom on the battlefield.[6]
