TheBezirk Halle was adistrict (Bezirk) ofEast Germany. The administrative seat and the main town wasHalle.
The district was established, with the other 13, on 25 July 1952, substituting the oldGermanstates. After 3 October 1990 it was disestablished as a consequence of theGerman reunification, becoming again part of the state ofSaxony-Anhalt exceptArtern kreis, which became part ofThuringia.
The Bezirk Halle bordered with theBezirke ofMagdeburg,Potsdam,Cottbus,Leipzig,Gera andErfurt.
TheBezirk was divided into 23Kreise: 3 urban districts (Stadtkreise) and 20 rural districts (Landkreise):
