Constituency profile

[edit]

Bexleyheath and Crayford is a predominantlysuburban constituency, located in theBorough of Bexley on the outskirts ofLondon. It contains the towns ofBexleyheath andCrayford and the neighbourhood ofSlade Green.

The area was historically rural and developed rapidly following the arrival ofrailways in the late 19th century.[3] Compared to the rest of the country, residents of the constituency are wealthier and have similar levels of education and professional employment. The constituency is less ethnically diverse than other parts of London but more so than the country as a whole; 73% of residents areWhite, 11% areBlack and 10% areAsian.[4] Atthe most recent borough council election in 2022, most of the constituency's seats were won byConservatives, whilst the areas closer to theThames electedLabour Party councillors. Unlike most of London, Bexleyheath and Crayford voted strongly in favour of leaving theEuropean Union in the2016 referendum, estimated at 65% of voters.[4]
