Bevan Rodd (born 26 August 2000) is a professionalrugby union player who plays as aprop forPremiership Rugby clubSale Sharks. He representsEngland at international level after qualifying onancestry grounds.[1][2]

Club career

Born in Scotland,[2] Rodd grew up on theIsle of Man and was educated atThe Buchan School.[3] He later attendedSedbergh School[4] and subsequently came through theSale Sharks academy, making his professional debut againstNorthampton Saints in aPremiership Rugby Cup match underSteve Diamond in 2019.[5][6] He really made his professional breakthrough the following season under the management ofPaul Deacon andAlex Sanderson.[5][7]

Having become a regular starter for Sale at the age of twenty, on 4 April 2021 he was a starter against theScarlets in Sale's 57–14 awayChampions Cup victory.[8] He still figured in the starting XV a week later, for the quarter-final defeat againstLa Rochelle.[9][10]

International career

Rodd represented the England Under-16[4] andEngland under-18 team.[11] He was also a member of the squad that lost toIreland in the opening round of the2019 Six Nations Under 20s Championship.[12] Eligible for bothScotland andEngland national teams, he was reportedly reviewed by former England managerEddie Jones andMatt Proudfoot for future selection.[5][7]

In June 2021 he was included in the England senior squad for the2021 Summer Internationals, but was not featured in either of the tests.[13]

On 10 November 2021 Rodd was called up to the England squad for the2021 Autumn Nations Series for England's match againstAustralia. He replacedJoe Marler, who had tested positive forCOVID-19 and was forced to pull out for the match.[14] Rodd was initially named on the bench against Australia, before being moved to the starting line up after starting looseheadEllis Genge also had to withdraw due to COVID-19.[15]

He earned his first England cap in the 32–15 victory over the Wallabies. He then started a week later againstSouth Africa, with Genge still unavailable for selection and Marler only coming out of isolation a few days before.[16] Rodd finished his2021 Autumn Nations Series with a 27–26 win over the world champions.[17]

Rodd was included in the initial 36-man England training squad for the2022 Six Nations Championship.[18] He did not feature in the Championship. He was recalled to the England squad for theirtour of Australia in July 2022 and for the2022 Autumn Internationals but did not add to his two caps.[19][20]

Rodd came on as a replacement as England were defeated by Wales 20-9 inCardiff as part of the2023 Rugby World Cup warm-ups.[21]

He was named in England's final 33 man squad for the2023 Rugby World Cup in France.[22]
