TheBerthong Creek, a mostly–perennial river[3] that is part of theLachlan sub-catchment of theMurrumbidgeecatchment within theMurray–Darling basin, is located in theSouth West Slopes, andRiverina regions ofNew South Wales,Australia. The Berthong Creek is only connected to the Murray Darling basin when theBland Creek, the Lachlan and Murrumbidgee Rivers are in flood.
The Berthong Creek (technically a river[3]) rises west ofWombat, between the towns ofStockinbingal andYoung, and flows generally north by west, joined by one minor tributary, before reaching itsconfluence with the Bland Creek. The creek descends 182 metres (597 ft) over its 40-kilometre (25 mi)course.[1] The creek is impounded by the Berthong Dam south of Yannawah.
