Belgharia railway station is aKolkata Suburban Railway station on theSealdah–Ranaghat line. It servesBelgharia,Nimta and surrounding areas. It situates between theDum Dum Junction railway station and theAgarpara railway station.

History

The main line fromSealdah toRanaghat byEastern Bengal Railway was opened to railway traffic in the year 1862[2] and extended toKushtia in present-dayBangladesh within two months.[3][4] The Sealdah–Kusthia line of theEastern Bengal Railway used to work only on theeastern side of theHooghly River.[5]

Railway

Thisrailway station and itstrack is located on theSealdah Ranaghat railway line that stretches betweenKolkata district,North 24 Parganas district andNadia district. This railway currently has 4 tracks fromSealdah toNaihati Junction and 2 tracks fromNaihati Junction toRanaghat Junction.

Thetrack of this station is classified as C-class track, is not a speed classification. But it is used forsuburban rail services inmetropolitan areas.[6]

Station complex

Theinfrastructure of the station is terrestrial. Therailway platform is almost fully sheltered. At the station, the building for station management and thestation master's building are located adjacent to theplatform no. 1. The station has two ticket counters one is outside theplatform no. 4 and another is onplatform no. 1. Passengers are issuedtickets from thoseplatforms by station ticket officers fortrain travel.

TheDown Train leaves fromplatform no. 2 and 4. On the other hand, theUp Train leaves fromplatform no. 1 and 3. There are manyapproach roads to this station.[7] The Madhusudan Banarjee Road fromBirati side connects theFeeder Road fromBarrackpore Trunk Road side andJessore Road through the railway stationBelgharia.

There areauto rickshaw stands,E-rickshaw stands outside Platform 1 and Platform 4. All the platforms are connected withsubway andfoot-over bridge. The station hasseating,toilet,drinking water facilities for passenger convenience. There is nofour wheels vehiclesparking facility at the station. But available only forbicycles andmotorcycles..

Electrification

Mostlocal passenger trains are electric trains and run on the tracks of Agarpara railway station. Electrification of this railway through theSealdah–Ranaghat line was completed in 1963–1965.[8]

Rail Service

This station provides rail services to its surrounding area of the station. Trains approach forRanaghat,Kalyani Simanta,Gede,Sealdah andMajerhat run through this station. Local trains ofKolkata Suburban Railway serve rail passengers daily at this station.

Securities

Belgharia railway station belongs toSealdah Railway Division ofEastern Railway Zone ofIndian Railways. All the responsibilities of station management are given on the head of the station "Station Master". Apart from this, temporary mobile GRP personnel are employed for the security of the station and its premises. There is a GRP office on platform no. 1. Thesecurity of station adjoining areas is provided by thelocalpolice administration.
