Beat Instrumental was a UK monthlypop androck magazine. Founded bySean O'Mahony (aka Johnny Dean) and first published in May 1963 asBeat Monthly, it becameBeat Instrumental Monthly with issue 18 andBeat Instrumental from issue 37. Like the weeklyMelody Maker, it was aimed at musicians, emphasising instruments, production and equipment in its interviews and moving easily toprogressive rock in the late 1960s.[1] The magazine ceased publication in 1980.[2]
Kevin Swift was amongBeat Instrumental's reporters in 1966.[3] During the 1970s, the features editor wasSteve Turner,[4] andAdam Sweeting also wrote for the magazine.[2]
