Batzorig Vaanchig (Mongolian:Батзориг Ваанчиг; born August 3, 1977) is a Mongolian musician. He first garnered attention for a video of him singing "Chinggis Khaanii Magtaal" (In Praise ofGenghis Khan) on top of a mountain inMongolia. He later sang more Mongolian folk songs using histhroat singing skills.
Batzorig was born in 1977 inZag, Mongolia.[1] In 2014, he started throat singing onYouTube. He uploaded a video of him singing "Chinggis Khaanii Magtaal", aMongolian folk song, on top of a mountain inBayanhongor, Mongolia, whilst playing amorin khuur.[2][3] The video has a total of 28 million views as of 2025. Also in 2014, Batzorig made a cameo in theNetflix seriesMarco Polo, as a throat singing musician in amilitary camp.[4] Batzorig is also part of the folk ensembleKhusugtun. In 2020, Batzorig posted a video of his throat singing with his daughter, Maral Batzorig. The video also became famous as it reached almost 5 million views.[5] On December 4th, 2022, he released his only solo album "The Great Chinggis Khaan."[6]
In August 2023, Batzorig performed his throat singing onCNN toRichard Quest inUlaanbaatar, during Quest's visit in Mongolia.[7]
