The Battle of Beroe was a conflict nearStara Zagora, ancientUlpia Augusta Traiana, between theRomans andGoths in 250. The Romans underTrajan Decius were pursuing the Goths, underCniva, after their victory at theBattle of Nicopolis ad Istrum. A Goth ambush at Beroe led to heavy Roman losses and forced Decius to retreat across theBalkan Mountains toMoesia. This allowed Cniva tocapture Philippopolis inThrace.[1]
