In 2006,[4] Rahul Ghosh ofCPI(M) won the Baruipur Assembly constituency defeating his nearest rival Arup Bhadra ofAITC. Arup Bhadra ofAITC defeated Sujan Chakraborty ofCPI(M) in 2001.[5] Sovandeb Chattopadhyay ofINC defeated Sujan Chakraborty ofCPI(M) in 1996[6] and Hemen Majumdar ofCPI(M) in 1991.[7] Hemen Majumdar ofCPI(M) defeated Arup Bhadra ofINC in 1987,[8] Jalil Gazi ofINC in 1982[9] and Ram Kanta Mondal ofINC in 1977.[10][11]
Lalit Gayen ofINC won in 1972.[12] Bimal Mistry ofCPI(M) won in 1971.[13] Kumud Ranjan Mondal ofSSP won in 1969[14] and 1967.[15] Sakti Kumar Sarkar ofINC won in 1962.[16] In 1957 and 1952, Baruipur Assembly constituency had joint seats. Khagendra Kumar Roy Choudhury and Gangadhar Naskar, both ofCPI, won in 1957.[17] In 1952, Lalit Kumar Sinha ofCPI and Abdus Shukur ofINC, won.[18]
