Barrie Mitchell OsborneONZM (born February 7, 1944) is an American film producer,production manager and director.

Biography

The son of Hertha Schwarz and William Osborne, Barrie was born in New York City^[1] and grew up inNew Rochelle, New York where he graduatedNew Rochelle High School.^[2] He is an alumnus ofCarleton College inNorthfield, Minnesota and currently lives inWellington, New Zealand. He was appointed anOfficer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM), for services to the film industry, in the2017 New Year Honours.^[3]

Osborne's most notable work isThe Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King for which he,Peter Jackson, andFran Walsh received theAcademy Award for Best Picture. He also produced the 2013The Great Gatsby remake, starringLeonardo DiCaprio.

In 2014, Osborne,Alan B. Curtiss, and Mexican entrepreneurMax Appedole, releasedGloria, a biopic of controversial Mexican pop starGloria Trevi, directed by Christian Keller.^[4]

Osborne is also preparing a possible movie trilogy about theViking kingHarald Hardrada.^[5]
