Barebox is a primaryboot loader used inembedded devices. It isfree software under theGPL-2.0-only license.[4] It is available for a number of differentcomputer architectures, includingARM,x86,MIPS andRISC-V.[5]
The Barebox project began in July 2007 as u-boot-v2, as it was derived fromDas U-Boot, but with heavier borrowings from Linux like similar utilities and with a more Linux-like coding style.[6]
